Ransomware Attack on Rackspace Servers
Rackspace Technology (around USD 3.01 billion in revenue for 2021), has confirmed that an ongoing outage affecting its hosted Exchange customers (over 50,000 customers) is the result of a ransomware attack against its hosted Exchange environment, carried out by an unspecified group.
The outage was first reported at 7.49am GMT on Friday 2 December, when Rackspace began investigating reports of connectivity issues to Exchange environments, which resulted in users hitting an error when they tried to access their emails.
The event continues 6 days later (Thursday 8th December), where customers, are still are not able to have full access to their emails, with no recovery date obvious at this time.
These types of exposures can be avoided, or at least controlled, if the servers had been updated with the latest Microsoft security patches and/or an intrusion detection system used.
A9X Cyber Security provides software solutions (bespoke to the marine industry) to protect your marine vessels against such attacks – A9X Win Updates, that allows you to protect your marine vessel computers and servers, by automatically installing the Microsoft security patches, and A9X Watchdog, a remotely installed and managed intrusion detection system.
